Social responsibility is an essential part of our business and employee culture at Olympus. We encourage charitable and civic activities in the communities where we live and work. It is part of Our Purpose to make people’s lives healthier, safer, and more fulfilling.
Impact Areas
Our charitable activities are focused primarily on the areas of healthcare, science and technology, and the environment. We also are involved in humanitarian causes aimed at addressing issues such as hunger and poverty, emergency relief actions in response to natural disasters, and contributions to local communities.
Healthcare
Colorectal Cancer Awareness
During National Colorectal Cancer Month in March and throughout the year, we implement activities that are dedicated to raising awareness about colorectal cancer and promoting prevention, detection, and treatment. We provide our employees and the public with education about preventative measures, diagnostic screenings, and life-saving procedures. Through key partnerships, we support organizations that are on the frontline helping to combat colorectal cancer and providing access to underserved communities.
Science & Technology
STEM Education
We believe that carrying the torch of innovation forward in Science and Technology starts by inspiring tomorrow’s leaders. Across Olympus sites, we encourage and support at-risk youth through educational programs highlighting STEM education, career mentoring opportunities, and scholarship programs. Throughout the Americas, we cultivate STEM programs and work to inspire youth to join Our Purpose in making people’s lives healthier, safer, and more fulfilling.
Environment
Management Policies
By integrating sound environmental, health, and safety management practices into all aspects of our business, we can offer innovative products and services while conserving resources for future generations. We first established global environmental principles in 1992 at Olympus and set ambitious environmental protection goals. Today, our global Olympus Group Environmental Policy encompasses a wide range of activities targeting the re-establishment of a healthy environment and a society in which sustainable development is possible.
Disaster Relief
Humanitarian Causes
We support relief efforts in response to social and humanitarian crises and natural disasters. By giving corporate donations to disaster relief efforts, activating relief fund microsites and matching employee donations to those sites, and hosting blood donation drives, all of us at Olympus strive to provide help for those in need when disaster strikes.
Community Involvement
At Olympus, social responsibility means community involvement. It means caring about our friends and neighbors. It means giving back locally and giving back on a nationwide scale. We work to help support people in need within the communities we call home by focusing on select nonprofit groups located near our corporate locations. This allows us to build meaningful community partnerships and make sure that we are addressing the needs of the organizations our employees most wish to support.
Partnerships
We are passionate about making a meaningful impact in our communities by engaging in national and site-specific community partnership programs.
Through our National Partnerships, we focus on supporting programs and initiatives within our defined Impact Areas. Through our Local Partnerships, we focus on select charitable initiatives in each of our corporate locations where we can drive impact through financial support, volunteer hours, and collection/donation drives. This allows us to build meaningful partnerships and directly address the most important needs of each organization.
Employee-Initiated Giving
At Olympus, employees are supported and encouraged to be actively involved in the communities where we live and work.
- Workday Volunteering
Employees can use up to 16 paid work hours a year to volunteer with their favorite nonprofits through Olympus partnerships with local organizations. - Double Your Dollars for Charity
Employees can double their charitable impact—we match employee donations to qualified nonprofits dollar for dollar. - Dollars for Doers
When employees volunteer non-work time to qualified nonprofits, we contribute $10 for every hour they serve.
Community Drives & Fundraising
Every year, our colleagues throughout the Americas, together with Olympus Community Affairs, support collection initiatives for less fortunate children and their families in the communities where we live and work. As a result of employee contributions, we are able to provide thousands of school supplies and hundreds of backpacks for back to school, and thousands of pounds of food and a truckload of presents during the holiday season. Hundreds of Olympus employees also participate in fundraising walk/run challenges throughout the year to support health issues relevant to our medical business, as well as Movember, which raises awareness for men’s prostate and mental health issues.
Charitable Giving
At Olympus, we are true to our communities, true to our employees, and true to our world. Our philanthropic endeavors at Olympus enable us to demonstrate meaningful support for charitable and civic activities in the communities where our employees live and work and positively impact our core business areas. We remain true to our mission of making a meaningful impact in the communities we serve with our community partnership programs. Through ongoing engagement with our employees and valued stakeholders, Olympus develops targeted initiatives designed to maximize our positive impact in support of our current corporate focus areas.

Social Responsibility Stories
Early Detection Saves Lives
More than 50,000 Americans die from colorectal cancer each year. Over 60% of these deaths could be prevented with early detection.
A platinum sponsor of the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, Olympus helps raise awareness of the importance of cancer screenings in communities across the country through financial support, free screenings, and fundraising events.
Passionate About Involvement
Olympus is as true to our local communities as we are to the world at large.
Through meaningful, ongoing support of regional volunteer and nonprofit efforts, we help make a difference in the lives of people who live and work in the same neighborhoods as we do. Our commitment to giving back is at the core of what we believe.
Giving Back
“Part of my giving back to society is mentoring as many young African American men as possible.”
Health Equity
At Olympus, we are committed to addressing inequities in healthcare. Olympus has adopted the governing principles established by AvaMed, the world’s largest trade organization representing medical technology companies. These principles guide the industry in addressing racial health disparities by promoting inclusion and equity in healthcare, partnering in education with stakeholders, advocating for and facilitating patient access to innovative technology, and promoting research equity in the medtech industry.
